JELGAVA (LV)

Jelgava Local Municipality is situated in the southern part of Latvia, close to its Capital city Riga and borders with the Republic of Lithuania. Jelgava Local Municipality consists of 13 small rural municipalities – parishes. Total number of inhabitants is 25 213. Territory – 1317 km2.

Sport Centre is a part of Jelgava Local Municipality structure, it is local government body which works with the children and youth sports educational programs, organizes and manages sport life in Jelgava district. It also realizes sports educational programs in athletics, volleyball, freestyle wrestling, orienteering, rugby and floorball; promotes sport and a healthy lifestyle; organizes and supports ongoing training sports teachers, coaches; manages sport events for Jelgava district students, adults and veterans; supports new athletes participation in national and international competitions.

The main sport events are organized for districts pupils. In these events during the whole study year school teams compete in various sport disciplines, for instance – volleyball, basketball, athletics, floorball, football, cross country races, orienteering, ralleys, dodge ball. Also there are competitions organized for district inhabitants, as well as winter and summer sports festival.
